Timing Is Everything…

Over Labor Day weekend I decided to email the owner to get more details on the car.  I really wanted to know if it was a good as it looked in the ad, without having to cold call a complete stranger.  Its funny, I used to cold call people about their cars for sale, but I don’t want to do it now.  Then again I was 13, the internet as we know it did not exist, and if you wanted to know what cars were for sale you went to the local 7-11 an picked up the latest Trading Times, Auto Trader, etc.

I would call people about cars for sale before I could legally own or drive one.  I would spend hours on the floor looking at all of the pictures and marking which ones I was interested in with an X in the corner.  Then I would look the the J.C. Whitney catalog to see if parts were available.  Talk about primitive!

A day or two later I got a nice response from the owners wife letting me know that the owner doesn’t use email, so if I really wanted to know more I should text or call him.  TEXT! I still had my out.  So I text him asking for more info, he wanted me to call.  Fine.

For one reason or another I didn’t call him Labor Day weekend.  I was also preparing to go out of town, so I decided that since it would be at least a week before I could actually go see the car that I would wait until after my work trip to contact the owner.  It killed me coming to that decision, but I thought it was best.  If it was sold before I got back, it wasn’t meant to be.  If it was still available there was hope.

I got back in town on Sept. 13th and that evening as I promised myself prior, I would call the owner.  He answered, and yes she was still available! We spoke for about a half an hour going over all of the details of the car.   I was absolutely smitten!  Unfortunately the Monaco was 2 hours away from my house, and the owner was going back to work (His work week was starting that Friday.  It wouldn’t be easy getting out there at least until Saturday.  Fortunately we were able to make it work!
