Mike Brewer Solo TV Project

If you’re like me and watch any of the numerous automotive channels available via your preferred viewing method, you should know the name Mike Brewer.  Since 2003 Mike has made up half of the Wheeler Dealers team (first with Edd China, then Ant Anstead) on the Discovery Channel and its many offshoots (Velocity, Motor Trend).

The basic premise of the show has Mike on a mission to save old and repairable enthusiast vehicles, by having Edd / Ant repairing or otherwise improving an example of a particular make and model to a budget, then selling it to a new owner.

While the show has been successful for well over 15 years, Mike came to the realization that he travels the world looking for vehicles for Wheeler Dealers, but he never really gets an opportunity to get to know the locations or people in the towns that he visits.  That led Mike to want to try something new, while remaining a “car” show if you will.

The Mike Brewer Solo Show!

Of course that’s not the final name of the program, unless it is and I just let a huge cat out of the bag!  Let me check my contract to see what I can and cannot say…

Doesn’t say a damn thing!

I get a call from one of the producers at Motor Trend TV explaining the concept that Mike travels to a particular location, learns about local culture, finds local craftsmen to see what they’re up to, and otherwise enjoy the heck out of the couple days that he is in that location and to absorb as much as he can.

Oh, and he is going to be in Chicago the following week and they are looking for a car that is know around the world as a Chicago car.

THE BLUESMOBILE!!!

I automatically said yes.  There was no way in the world that I would say no to this opportunity!

Without giving to much of the story away, Mike lands in Chicago, calls his mate that lives here to let him know that he is here, only finding out that the friend is out in California or some other foreign country.

Mike try’s deep dish pizza for the first time, drives around downtown Chicago in The Bluesmobile, finally ending up by the Adler Planetarium with a picturesque view of the Chicago Skyline and The Bluesmobile of course!!

Waiting for her closeup!
The director and cameraman thinking out loud regarding framing the shots.
Mike and more of the team come to check out their Chicago ride.

And more talking…

And some more talking…
Looks good from this shot!
Mike playing a real life version of Frogger on Wells Street.
Hmmm, deep dish pizza. Good thing the hood was still hot from the drive over!

Forgot the napkins! Another round of Frogger: Real Life Edition!
Well, it looked delicious at one point.
Lunch. Don’t judge, I wasn’t driving!
Gratuitous rear end shot during costume change!
Mike Blues-er.
Planning the next shots.
Planning some more…
People getting into the follow car, must be close to showtime…
And we’re off!
Of course you have to do the obligatory shot of the Bluesmobile going under the El tracks!
Damn, just noticed I had a brake light out. Too late to fix now…
Close up of Mike and the cameraman sitting in the back seat.
Camera stuck to the side of the Bluesmobile via a magnet. Strong stuff.
We lost track of them for a long time, until we finally found them filming on the lakefront near Adler Planetarium.
Pretty sure we didn’t get permission to film there…
Breathtaking view of the Chicago skyline! No wonder they wanted to film at that location!!!
Time to go before the cops come!
So that’s how they get the front-end shots! I hope the cameraman was harnessed tight to something!
Thanks for signing the sun-visor Mike!

What a great experience this was! I can’t believe I got to see my car filmed for a TV show that will be seen around the world! The crew were absolutely humble, and the host was fantastic!  I’m officially a Mike Brewer fan for life!

Look for the show to come out in the near future!
